Our gift shop has many treasures for gardeners or those who just enjoy being in gardens. Since we opened in May 2000, our consistent best seller has been our garden gloves. Yellow Cottage has a good selection of gloves that really fit and do the job. I believe gloves are the most important tool for the avid gardener keeping you safe from diseases and dangers that are in the soil. Every year I hear of injuries from people who ‘loved the feel of the warm earth on their hands in spring’ and I was one of those. But after a day of gardening, my hands were very sore and looked even worse. With the correct glove, you should be able to forget you are even wearing them and your hands should look and feel great after a full workout in the earth. (Please see my price list.) of your legs and in your shoulders but some proper exercises and a warm bath should look after that. The point is, there are so many ways to protect ourselves from injury such as gloves, knee pads, warm-up exercises, sun screens and sun hats to make your garden experience even better, so why not look after ourselves!

We also carry gardening and bird books, a few books and toys for children (including quality plush animals), garden flags both small and large, bird feeders, garden ornaments and many unusual items you won’t see everywhere.

Something that has become very popular are the beeswax candles – and Yellow Cottage has the best – Canadian made Pheylonian Beeswax - from t-lites and tapers to large pillars. The aroma they give to a room even when not lit is lovely, but when lit they are a hard-working air cleaner and room freshener. It is very important to note that other types of candles should not be burnt along with the beeswax candles due to the air cleaning abilities of the beeswax which would plaster your walls with the soot coming off the other candles. Because the beeswax is a food source, the scent works better than perfume scented candles for dinner parties or for people sensitive to perfumes.

The property in Wallacetown was purchased in the fall of 1998. The gardens and arbours were not begun until the spring of 1999 which gives a good demonstration to visitors on how quickly your property can become a haven for birds and insects. The garden is open to our customers during business hours and you are invited to bring a brown bag lunch with you to enjoy in a shady spot among our flowers.
