| The
property in Wallacetown was purchased in the fall of 1998. Outside of planting
a few spring bulbs, the actual gardens and structures did not come into
existence until October 1999. The gift shop and garden opened to the public
May 3, 2000. Although the garden is new, it is already beginning to take
on a more established feel, in part, thanks to the older Maples, Walnuts,
Locusts and Scotch Pines that were already on the property. Fortunately
we were able to acquire some large, mature perennials which also helps to
give the gardens an older look. The half-acre lot has been divided into
several areas or outdoor rooms. You are welcome to sit down and enjoy the
different surroundings. Birds are encouraged to feed and nest in the garden,
and you will often see them bathing in the little riverbed that runs between
the two ponds. The two beehives are in their own 'corral' to keep the bees' flightpath out of the way of garden guests. "Yellow Cottage Honey" is a treat sold in the gift shop located at the front of the cottage. |
